Nicky Falkenhayn

Medium:Jewelry
Growing up in a small conservative village in Switzerland, where only boys could participate in wood and metal work, Falkenhayn became skilled in knitting and sewing. These skills have evolved into what can be seen as her work today. She combines fine knitted metal wire with heavy welded steel structures in her sculptures, and crochets silver wire to create her unique jewelry.

When creating art, Falkenhayn uses subjects from her own life experiences and family history to show society an image of itself. Each sculpture tells a story to the viewer, and represents a deep experience of the artist. She explores issues of identity, duality, and aesthetics in her work. Searching for harmony in relationships and asks people to take a look at the roles we play as men and woman, and our relationship to the environment.

Falkenhayn perfected her artistic skills at the Oregon College of Art and Craft, and at Pacific Northwest College of Art. She has participated in the Portland and Sun Valley Arts Festivals, and has shown her work at Western University in Monmouth Oregon.
