Medium:Painters
These paintings serve as a development of ideas which evolve and draw conclusions as I have explored them visually. My process of painting mimics the process of living. One event in life is the springboard for another. When I paint, one work, image, or mark influences the next. I do not think that one action--in painting or in life--is independent. Rather, each action has a history that precedes it. And I would like to think that my paintings, when looked at as a whole, show a technical and conceptual development.

My paintings are all executed in encaustic on acrylic. I love this medium because of its ability to create a sense of depth. Encaustic, because of its transparency, shows the layers of the painting that make up the completed work. This aspect of the medium allows for a humanistic feel similar to the exposition of every characteristic of an individual that combine to make them human.

Art making is a means of problem solving. As I paint and draw I address the problems of space, composition, color, and line. Simultaneously I work through various issues of being. I begin each piece by defining a concept that I wish to explore. In the process of painting, I do not feel that I am providing every answer. In fact, the painting itself is asking a question as much as it is providing the answer.
